Hi! Thanks for downloading Guttersnipe: St. Hesper's Asylum for the Criminally Mischievous!

Please be aware if you download the game, though, there should be five files in the download: readme.txt (which you're reading now), asylum2.quest, urchins.pdf, an html file named "index", and an image called playonline.jpg.  Ignore the image and the index file -- IFComp needs to have those in the zip file to enable online play, but they have nothing to do with the downloaded version. Urchins.pdf is a feelie to give you some extra color about the world in which St.Hesper's Asylum for the Criminally Mischievous takes place, but you won't need to read it to actually play or win the game. The file you want for playing offline is the asylum2.quest file.  Unfortunately, to play it offline you'll need to download the quest software at http://textadventures.co.uk/quest  but it will allow you to play offline. This will give you the option to save your progress and also allow you to avoid lag. You can also play the game online at http://textadventures.co.uk/games/view/uw0v4t0p5kicbvkeweuv5a/guttersnipe-st-hespers-asylum-for-the-criminally-mischievous, but you won't be able to save your progress unless you register an account at that site.
