============================================ Hunt the Wumpus Created by Cheryl Howard for the 12th Annual IF Competition 2006 ============================================ This game has not been previously released by me using this (or any other) system and, therefore, qualifies as a valid entry into this competition. The original "Hunt the Wumpus" was created in 1976 by Gregory Yob and written in BASIC (Ahl, D. H. (1979) More Basic Computer Games New York: Workman Publishing (p178)). I wanted to experiment with randomisation so thought this little gem from yesteryear would be a likely vehicle! The content is my own - I've just borrowed the concept! This game has several problems to solve but they may not be in the same place each time you play, thereby making a walkthrough difficult to construct. The main objective is to discover where the Wumpus may be lurking, kill it and return to the surface before your lantern runs out. The other objective is to survive by avoiding the various hazards within the cavernous "Wumpus Run", such as a bottomless pit and a colony of Giant Bats! READ THE CLUES CAREFULLY and deduce where the hazards could be lurking and avoid them. You may be lucky enough to find a map, otherwise the "huntWumpusMap.jpg" is provided to help the Judges negotiate the cavern complex, as this is the main "puzzle" of the game. Pay particular attention to the various clues that may reveal what lies beyond the exits of each location to help you avoid the various hazards lurking therein. For more details read the introduction and your contract very carefully. Happy Wumping!
