The two opposing civilizations share a World that has been created for the Game.
Each player starts the Game with a Lifeform civilization at the earliest stages of its development.
The goal of the Game of Worlds is to destroy your opponent's civilization or reach a point when one civilization is so far advanced compared to the other that a player resigns from the game.

<div id = "gamesubtitle">Card Types</div> <img src="pagedivider.png"></div>While each Card in the Great Deck is unique, over the billenia of the Tower, they have been grouped into nine major Arcana:<p><img src="Arcana_Star.png" align="left" height="70px" width="70px" valign="middle" style="margin: 0px 10px">**Star** : The Arcana of the Star work upon the Sun.

The Arcana of Flowers are unique.</p>Each Card has an Effect period which will cause it to remain in play for 1 turn or many turns.

The goal of the Game is to maximize the characteristics of the Lifeform using the available Cards and to disrupt the opponent's strategies through careful play in order that the player's civilization becomes dominant. At any time, the player can inspect the status of the World (EXAMINE WORLD or X WORLD) and the condition of both their and their opponent's Lifeform (EXAMINE LIFE or X LIFE).

There are three ways to end a Game of Worlds. Firstly, a civilization may be destroyed. Secondly, a player may resign from the game (RESIGN) if an untenable position is reached. Thirdly, if the Deck is empty, the game will end in a referee's decision.

<div id = "gamesubtitle">Lifeform Characteristics</div> <img src="pagedivider.png"></div>Understanding the complexities of Life is most important on the journey to become a great Game of Worlds player. In order to maximize effectiveness against your opponent, using the Cards to mold your Lifeform into the best configuration is the key to winning.
The base values of continents colonized, population and the size of the armies is the first variable. The larger the population, the quicker new continents will be colonized. The larger the army, the more chance you have of achieving decisive victories in battle. The more continents controlled, the quicker the population growth.
</div><div id="sectionRight">The characteristics of Life also have a significant effect on play. For example, a warlike Life will achieve better results in battle, but will be slower in population growth. An intellectual Lifeform will more rapidly evolve, but will be slower to colonize new land. A hardy Lifeform will enjoy high population growth and victory in battle, but will evolve less rapidly. Lifeforms with a higher position on the social evolution ladder will have a significant advantage in battle.

<div id = "gamesubtitle">World Characteristics</div> <img src="pagedivider.png"></div>The World created for the Game will be of a specific type. The type of the World may hinder population growth, or affect the evolution of a Lifeform. For example, a Desert world will slow population growth, but speed evolution as the Lifeform struggles to tame the hard environment.
A World will also have a measure of minerals, metals and organics. The more abundant these materials, the faster the population on World will grow. This is a factor for both players to consider as a player's strategy must take this into account.

Most Games will utilize a World in the Gaian Eccentric. Therefore the Yellow Sun will be in its First Age. Civilizations on the World will grow and possibly evolve at the end of each Game turn. However, some Cards allow the player to turn the Sun, advancing it to a new Age.
This will have a dramatic impact on the Game. All the Effects in play will be trebled in power for this turn (both the player's and the opponent's) as turning the Sun will advance the civilization by millions of years.
</div><div id="sectionRight">When, and if to play a Card that turns the Sun is an important strategic decision. Games are lost and won with these Cards.

There are many strategies players employ to win in Game of Worlds. Some focus on population growth - maximizing their Lifeform's foothold on the World. Some focus on evolution - they understand that more rapidly evolving Life will have significant advantage. Yet others focus on War and bloodshed and restrict their opponent's growth.
All players should understand that crafting the characteristics of a Lifeform is important for their Strategy. For example, a player looking to maximize population growth will ensure their Life is less Warlike, and more Creative and Amicable.

A player who looks to achieve victory through battle, may want to craft a Warlike, Physical and Aggressive Lifeform - while understanding that this will limit growth and evolution.
The key to winning in the Game of Worlds is Card combinations. Individual cards will do damage to your opponent, but only by understanding and combining their powers will you become a great player.

To start the Game, each player will be dealt seven cards from the Deck and given five Counter tokens.
A coin will be flipped to denote the starting player. Players take it in turns to play. On each turn the player has the following two options: Play a card onto the Stack (PLAY <cardname>) or to end the turn without playing a card.
After a card is played, the opposing player has the opportunity to use a Counter token and counter the card before its effects are projected onto the Lifeform (COUNTER).
</div><div id="sectionRight">A Counter token may also be Countered. The next turn is signified by both players agreeing to end the turn (END TURN). The player who has just played a card is then dealt another once all Card effects have been decided.
