[[I've reached an "unlikely ending." When will I reach a real one?|end1]]
The Sea-Monkeys thrive under the right conditions. Make sure their "mood" is always displayed in green, not yellow or red.
[[(M)|die2]]ore / [[(O)|start]]K
The events of the story occur at random intervals. Keep your Sea-Monkeys healthy, and eventually something new will happen.
[[(M)|bored2]]ore / [[(O)|start]]K
From the About section of the story:
There are several definitive endings, each concluded with "END." If you haven't yet reached one such passage, try playing the simulation again. There are more Sea-Monkeys to care for.
[[(M)|end2]]ore / [[(O)|start]]K
The health of the Sea-Monkeys depends on three things: their hunger, the water clarity, and the water level.
[[(M)|die3]]ore / [[(O)|start]]K
In order for the mood to be green, the water clarity must be greater than 60% and the water level needs to be above 70%. Hunger isn't displayed as a statistic, but if both the clarity and water level conditions are met and yet the mood is still displayed in yellow or red, it's probably time to feed the Sea-Monkeys.
[[(M)|die4]]ore / [[(O)|start]]K
A good strategy is a three-day cycle of Nothing / Nothing / Feed. Sometimes a two-day cycle of Nothing / Feed will be better. Eventually the water level will get too low and/or the clarity will be too low. That's usually a good time to Add water. Stir is a pretty useless option, but it's included because it's something people like to do.
[[(M)|die5]]ore / [[(O)|start]]K
Specifically, there is an 18% chance that an event (told in green) will happen on any given day, provided there isn't a Sea-Monkey that dies or is born.
Whether a Sea-Monkey is born depends on their "mood." If their mood is displayed in green, there's a 2% chance. If it's in yellow, there's a 1% chance. There's a 0% chance of birth when the mood is red.
For death, the probabilities are: 3% for green, 3% for yellow, 12% for red.
[[(M)|bored3]]ore / [[(O)|start]]K
After about ten events, you'll reach a climactic scene in yellow. That leads to one of the "unlikely endings" of the game, and you'll either be returned to the title screen to play again or move to the second part of the game if you've earned three key "unlikely endings."
[[(M)|end1]]ore about endings / [[(O)|start]]K
The only way to reach a definitive end is to play through the game several times. For each game, keep your Sea-Monkeys alive as long as you can. If they live long enough, eventually you'll reach a climactic ending (told in yellow) with your family.
[[(M)|end3]]ore / [[(O)|start]]K
Specifically, you need to unlock #4 and #5 of the unlikely endings. Then you need to play through the game again to unlock the final key unlikely ending (#6, though you might not return to the title screen to see it listed as one of the achieved endings).
Endings 1, 2, 3, 7, and 8 don't affect the overall flow of the story, but are included for verisimilitude.
[[(M)|end4]]ore--Major spoilers! / [[(O)|start]]K
They are called "unlikely endings" because only one of them actually happened.
1: The Sea-Monkeys run out of water.
2: You don't feed the Sea-Monkeys enough.
3: All the Sea-Monkeys die.
4: Your mother accidentally spills the tank of Sea-Monkeys when cleaning the kitchen.
5: Your father comes home and dumps the Sea-Monkeys in the sink.
7: You accidentally spill the tank while feeding, adding water, or stirring.
8: You quit the game.
The ending that's actually true is #6. Your parents announce their divorce and you get angry and throw the tank, Sea-Monkeys and all, across the room.
Once you achieve #6, you'll move to a new story about your life as a young adult with someone you're dating.
[[(M)|end5]]ore / [[(O)|start]]K
The story about the person you love is comparatively short. Make your decisions carefully.
[[(M)|end6]]ore / [[(O)|start]]K
But if you don't like the ending you get with the person you love, you can try again. Ninety seconds after the final passage is displayed, a link will appear at the bottom of the page and you'll have an opportunity to play the simulation again. If you keep your Sea-Monkeys alive, you'll get ending #6 again, and then you'll be able to make different choices regarding the person you love.
[[(O)|start]]K
But keep in mind the epigraph at the beginning of the game. The probabilities are such that, in the long run, all the Sea-Monkeys will eventually die. If you keep the Sea-Monkeys alive for long enough, something interesting will happen before you reach that point.
