Solution to Inheritance by Eric Toth ************************************************************ This is a really simple game, but with a few obscure puzzles. Should take around 200 turns to complete. We start at the Helipad atop the house. Examine the spotlight and pull the lever. Now head down the stairs. Ignore the upper floor for now, head down again. Head south from the main hall and examine the tree. The branches are hanging low, which is a great reason to look under the tree. Hmmm, you are expected. Let's examine the gift then open it. We can't see anything on the paper yet, but hold onto it. You can drop the wrapping. Head south one more time and examine the photographs. Remember me saying that there were a few puzzles that got confused? Well, here's one of them. Examine the old photo and note that the man is writing. This is supposed to be a tip that he's an author. Ignore the idol and mask for now. Just take note of the name at the bottom of the old photo. Head north, east. Ignore the cat, he won't be bothering us for long. Head east again into the kitchen. the other part of the ambiguous puzzle is that nutmeg is a spice in the rack. Examine the rack and get a poor message, but examine nutmeg and get another key. The room description refers to all the devices in the room. Examine them. If you have a cat that eats wet food this puzzle shouldn't be hard. (You really shouldn't feed your cats wet food; it's terrible for them.) For those that haven't experienced this phenomena before turn on the can opener and see what happens. Poor kitty. But he's off the table and that's all that matters. We're now done with the kitchen. Head back west and pick up the table cloth from the table. Now head north into the greatroom. Examine the table and the chandelier. Hmm, something is up there and we want it. Try standing on the table....Okay, so you're a neat freak. Let's put the table cloth on the table and stand on the table again. Hmm, another shape. What are these things for? Examining them gives very little info. Head north into the library. Remember that I said that the man in the old photo was "writing" in the book? Like an author? Okay, let's look him up here. Examine the shelves and then try "find nutmeg." Examine the book. Hmmm, journal. We can't read or open it because it is locked, but we have a couple of keys to try. Putting 2 and 2 together here we try the key from behind the nutmeg first and *click*. Now we can read the journal. Okay, for those of you who are beginners we rarely get these clues in a game for no reason. You should remember a spot that had something close to this...The room south of the tree. Head south twice then west then south. First let's look at this idol. If you examine it you see something strange about the eyes. Let's try to look behind it...Curiouser and curiouser. well, we can try what we read. Get the mask and wear it. Read the journal one more time to remember what to do. Follow the instructions and you should get another shape from the idol. And now we have 3 shapes. We don't need the journal, small key, or the mask anymore. Head north, east, north, east, and north again. We're now in the basement of the house. Examine everything in this room. the bar seems rather boring, but let's search it anyways. Hmmm, more specific. How about looking behind it? Great, a dart! And we have a dart board. But we throw and throw and get nothing better than one of the outter rings. We'll leave the dart board for now. Head west into the utility room. Get the gloves then open the fuse box (unlock it with the master key) and examine it and the buttons. Looks like the roof one needs to be fixed. Try pushing the button. Head east and up. Go east into the backyard and examine the statue. Nothing we can do here yet so don't waste your time. Head around the house to the ne or sw. Hmmm, looks like the spotlight is on now. The gargoyle has no purpose except to bounce the light. Examine the cobble stone and then get it. Yet another shape....Let's find out what these are for. Head east into the house and then up to the second floor. Go east into the study and examine the desk. Open the drawer and get the glasses. Wear them. Now, examine the sheet of blank paper again and note the new writing. Read them to get another hint to the nutmeg puzzle and also a pretty good recipe for eggnog. We don't need the sheet of paper anymore. Head west and south to pick up the guitar. We'll need it later. Head north twice into your uncle's bedroom. Examine the fireplace and examine the scrap of paper. read it. *sigh* Another author. Okay, we'll handle him later. Hold on to the scrap for spelling reasons. Go east into the lab (again use the master key to unlock the door.) Finally we find the reason for all these shapes. Examine the device and take note of all the different slots. Hmmm, we have a few shapes that will fit those. Let's put them in the appropriate slots. (for example, us "put star in star slot") We've filled four of eight slots. Let's go get the other shapes. Head west and south to the hall then up to the roof. You won't be able to do much at the south tower yet but you might as well check out the intercom and door. Head north across the roof to the bell tower. Ignore the bell. It's fun to throw things at it, but you just have to retrieve them anyways. dart at The balloon is more interesting. Can we get it? Nope? Okay, let's think desstructively...Throw the dart at it. Head down to retrieve your shape prize, but ignore the rest. Going south from the bottom of the tower brings you back to the foyer. Head east and north to the library and find the name from the scrap of paper. Read the book, which gives another shape, then drop the book. Your uncle must not be a major reader. We're finally done with the library. Head south, east, and north back to the basement. Let's look at that dart board again. Examine it, then examine the bullseye. Getting the picture here? Push the bullseye to open the secret door. Head east twice. A periscope??? Really, how do these things get here? Well, let's look through it. Hmmm, looks like we're looking through the eyes of that statue in the back yard. remember how it was facing west? What happens if we turn the periscope? Look through it again and you are looking at one of the pedestals. The NW one to be precise. Note the number on it. In fact, keep turning the statue and look at all four pedestals, noting the numbers on each. Keep these for later. Head east and you'll find the chasm. this is the only maze in the game and it's a simple one. There are tons of dead-ends, but don't worry about them as you can easily backtrack. Find your way through the maze (remembering that your goal is on the eastern ledge) and claim your prize. then head back through the maze and head west back to the basement. Head south and east to the yard. We need to turn the dials to the correct numbers. turn nw to 5, turn ne to 2, turn se to 9, turn sw to 7. (No, this doesn't change from game to game.) Get the square and head west 3 times to the foyer. Go up, north, and east to the lab and put your final four shapes in their slots. Hmmm, a printout. Get that and read it. Have you tried playing your guitar before? If not it wouldn't have helped. Now with some music you can do something about that intercom. Head west, south, up and south. The intercom is really stupid, and you can't talk into it. But you can play your guitar and win the game. RLH 5/31/00
